Christian Moeller of PatchBurn fame has put together a front end for Matt Johnston's scripts that enable safe sleep on Macs that didn't ship with that capability. He mentions using it on older portables but it works on many desktops too, which is nice if you want a way to boot quickly but don't want to leave the machine powered up.
