macOS Permissions for Rails Development

I'm following the Ruby on Rails tutorialat http://documentation.rubyonrails.com/ and I'm running into alot of directories that I don't have permissions for. I've been using sudo to work around this.

Is there a better way to do this so that I can access these files/folders easier? from the finder?
