iPhone 7/Plus Phone Got Soaked - What to replace it with?

I think my iPhone 7+ is dead. It got wet yesterday and won't power on. I use PureTalk for my carrier. I'm going to head to Best Buy soon to see if I can replace it. I originally had Verizon with my 7+. When looking for a phone do I get an unlocked phone? I was hoping to wait until October to buy a new phone, but I can't be without a phone for several months.

Unlocked is only important if you think you might change your cellular provider in the future. An unlocked phone could have a better resale value if you sell it on your own, but not necessarily. It just widens the potential buyer pool.
