How to export a saved (downloaded) podcast episode to MP3 or other audio file for subsequent editing?

Is it possible to export a podcast episode saved in the Podcasts app so that I can then edit it as a regular audio file? (For instance, to pull out a small sample extract).

It's not immediately clear how (or if) this can be done in macOS Ventura.

Thanks for your advice.

Nothing automated/easy to do this.

Dowloaded episodes are saved in a known location (~/Library/Group Containers/243LU875E5.groups.com.apple.podcasts/Library/Cache) as an mp3 on the Mac but has a unique ID name to the file. So need to figure which file is what and then can copy the file to a different location and mess with it as you wish.

Some details on how it all works and might be adaptable to what you want to do.
