Recently swapped my 2016 MBP for a very similar spec 2018 model as found a good deal locally and the net cost was zero - the quad core definitely makes a difference. I still plan to try an ARM Mac when they are available, but this makes things like Xcode a lot faster to use until then.

My two, keeping my iMac on Catalina for now, but upgraded the MBP to Big Sur.

My PowerBook seems running fine, although I still a bit hesitant to jump into Big Sur due unknown compatibility with my current tangent panels and other gears.

No longer my main workhorse but still my favorite, base model twelve core bought on 2013, major overhaul on 2016 with new Polaris graphics, new set of ECC sticks, PCIe SSD, etc. Final upgrade might be populated all bays with 4TB SSD each, while might be bottlenecked by SATA 2 speed, it helps random IO throughput by significant number, especially while spotlight search.

Got a new MBP earlier this year and while part of me thinks I should have waited for M1, I'm more than happy with this machine and its performance. For photo editing, it's way faster than my Windows laptop with dedicated graphics chip.

That was short-lived...
