One system (Sony 6.1-channel) for movies, one (Onkyo 2-channel) for music.
And a panoramic of the living room.

We've just recently upgraded our basement TV room with a new sound system (nothing crazy, an ONKYO S7700 system). Next we're thinking of replacing the 58" Samsung TV since the button panel seems to be defect and it switches on and off and tries to execute other commands randomly. It's a decent screen but it's kind of annoying to come home to discover that the TV eventually switched itself on at some point.

If you're trying to stream all your media content to the Home Theatre, I suggest getting Plex media server running on the mac mini and buy a roku 3.
Home Sharing with iTunes is getting worse with each update, it didn't use to be that way.

Should I go for a soundbar for my 70" TV or something more advance? I watch some TV shows, alot of movies, and play xbox more than I should.

I run Kodi (used to be XBMC) on an old Mac Mini and so far, it's working out great. I haven't yet managed to get it to stream stuff from my iMac (it can do it, I just haven't set it up right yet), but I have a media drive hooked up to the mini.

I'd also recommend Plex. I currently have use it in a Mac Mini/Roku 3 setup in my media room without any issues. In your case, you can install a Plex media server on the iMac and then the Plex HT on your mini to run it.

I also use Plex at home with my XBOX One as my media center and TV watching! works amazing with either Roku or XBOX one
If i was allowed the xbox one in the living room - that would work - an agreement to my buying it was that it would live in the man cave!! I am using Plex on my Samsung TV streamed from my iMac - with the films on an external 2tb Hard Drive - it just all seems a little bit clunky...........

In my living room I have an LG 60LB7100 60" WebOS TV, Bose Lifestyle 525 Series II Audio System with SoundTouch, LG BP730 3D Blu-ray player, Airport Express hidden away for iTunes and Airplay (even though the SoundTouch will also play my iTunes library) and of course my ugly Motorola DVR cable box. :)

In my basement I have a 39" LG TV, LG Blu-ray player, Onkyo TX-8050 stereo receiver, Bose Acoustimass 5 III speaker system, Marantz tt42p turntable, Wii U and an Airport Express for iTunes and Airplay.

Nothing special but works well for my tiny house in the city. Miss my full blown 5.1 component setup I had in the burbs but it sounds OK for now.

Samsung 4k TV 55 inch
Apple TV
Chrome cast
Ps4
Xbox
HD security cams
Mid range Samsung sound bar
Everything hardwired with cat 5.

Love the 4k TV. It's worth it even upscaled.

My next step is to move up to a high end sound bar, or perhaps look for a sleek minimalist 5.1 setup. also considering moving all the devices to the closet on the right and running a single visible hdmi cable to the TV.

Hey where did you get your shelf that your TV is sitting on??

Also for those people who have wall mounted your TVs how difficult is it to do?? I've been thinking of doing this as well as mounting my Sony soundbar underneath it.

Hi gang;
It's been a while since I posted here in the HT forum.
Our home theater is the AVS forum “Home Theater of the Month” for July, 2015!

Kinda geeky cool… special thanks to my wife Michelle for supporting all my endeavors, my brother Patrick, close friend Chris for helping along the way, and lots of others.

Dual CS 627Q Turntable
Athena WS Series Speakers (WS-100 Fronts/WS-60 Center/WS-15 Surrounds)

It's very easy my friend as I have 3 TV's wall mounted in my home.

65" LED TV in my living room. I had a friend help me lift it due to the weight.

50" Plasma in my mini man cave. This was a solo job as the TV was only 50" and easy to lift and mount.

32" LED in my bedroom. Again, another solo project.

Custom 12' Hanging Projection Screen with Barn Wood Frame (and Pirate Skull.)

Briefly lived in a renovated warehouse loft, which gave me the opportunity to do the installation I had always imagined. Originally conceived as a 16 x 9 surface, a small error in our calculations resulted in a ratio closer to 16 x 10. (We decided to adopt it as unique rather than disassemble the frame and start from scratch.) Final surface was composed of FlexiWhite vinyl over 1/4" Gatorboard for strength, suspended via aircraft cable mounted into exposed timber building joists. Barnwood salvaged from my grandparents' farm in Central WI. Pirate skull added for awesomeness.

Tech Specs:
Epson 8350 Projector
AudioEngine A5 2.0 Powered Speaker System
Maverick Audio TubeMagic D1 DAC
AppleTV
Samsung Bluray Player
HDMI/3.5mm Audio inputs for Laptop connection

The 8350 (comparable in price, but an enormous upgrade from the older 6500UB we began with) provided superior light output, even from a distance of 16'. From my vantage, low-end surround sound systems are pointless and a dedicated high end system requires a controlled acoustic environment to really justify its cost. In mixed-use space, I had a hunch that less was more. The A5's, while technically marketed as high-end PC speakers, provided more than sufficient output, even without the optional sub. (We received frequent neighborly complains if weekday viewings ran too late.) The DAC was necessary to decode sound from the AppleTV and the Maverick was chosen because it combined digital decoding with multiple inputs, allowing us to use it as an audio switch between the AppleTV, Blu-ray player and lappy. (Interestingly, though the Maverick is a "hybrid" DAC, featuring both a solid state amp and a vacuum tube, I preferred the sound of the solid state for most film and television playback.) The equipment was acquired over several years, but all said and done, the entire system could probably be assembled for around $2500, provided you do the construction and installation yourself

Sadly, it all came down last winter when I moved out. But it was fun while it lasted!

First test hang, prior to FexiWhite installation.

Final installation with speakers mounted off ground (to appease angry neighbors.)
IMG_1821.jpg
Awesomeness.

Let It Go.

Hey anyone here have some good suggestions for a starter home theatre? Debating whether I'd go with a 2.1 or 5.1 setup. I really like Polk Audio for speakers just not sure if I'd want to go with floor standing or bookshelf. As for receivers I'm not too picky as long as there's good ease of use. But I'd likely lean towards either Sony, Pioneer or Yamaha. At the moment I have a Sony soundbar with wireless sub. Clarity and detail is key. Especially for dialog in movies. Also I'd want good sound stage for music. I'm getting more into classic rock, classical and orchestral soundtrack music. But I do also listen to some hip-hop and modern rock. No heavy medal. Any suggestions would be great. I live in an apartment and the living room is roughly 12' x 20'.
