Given the massive variety of straps Swatch has come up with over the years, Apple could make a fortune on the straps alone. And if they don't, someone else is going to step in and do it for them.

I agree, but why haven't we heard any rumors about prospective licensees yet? This would be big fashion news. I can only imagine it's because Apple is planning on keeping a tight hold on the presumably lucrative watch band market, at least at first. Apple may even keep manufacturing in house for any of its licensees, so the case finish matches the watch perfectly.
Is Ed Hardy even still a thing? I thought that went away when Jersey Shore went off tv.
I guess with the easy interchangeability of straps, having a strap made of the very same material as your clothes is an option. Burberry check would be an obvious one.
Not for everyday wear, obviously (dry cleaning complexities and all). More for a special effect.

I prefer handmade straps at that price.
Even much higher quality crocodile straps can cost around $150.
Cow leather mass produced strap is unlikely to be that high quality.

I've never liked the somewhat gauche way LV peppers their logo over the entire surface of their products (just screams new money) BUT, I really like what you've done in the second picture where the watch strap appears to pass right through the watch face. It's really cool.
Some brands are 'ok' (and there is a couple luxury brands that I love) but if we start seeing tacky LV bands, I'm just going to have to roll my eyes on that one. Obviously there will be tons of knock offs and knock offs are technically illegal. But whatever makes someone feel better about themselves.

Anna Wintour was wearing the Watch at a recent Burberry show in LA. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple approves of designer bands at some point. The only problem with allowing 3rd party bands is the slew of knockoffs that will come. Bands that are crap but people buy them because they're cheap and they look like a designer band.

I bet it won't be long till we see china rip offs of these floating around in markets for a tenner. Might be a while till we see anything genuine coming from these brands.
