command-r won't work on your machine as recovery is not supported on that older model. Do you still have the grey installer DVDs that came with the machine?

It did not come with CDS, I purchased it used on Amazon, but I was wondering if I can find the discs on amazon.

Another option is to purchase a Snow Leopard disc from Apple and then upgrade to a later version of Mac OS X such as 10.10.
