One of the gripes about Raise to wake is when you have the phone in your hand and you having to move your hand around while talking/gesturing or doing some tasks (getting stuff out of a bag, brushing your hair, etc.) and you'll encounter some unwanted wakes. I've found a way to mitigate this pretty well - just hold the phone with HomeButton the other way around, i.e., if you are holding it side ways (long edge parallel to ground), hold it so HB is pointing away from you. This way, when you raise you hand the phone has HB pointing upwards and the phone doesn't turn on! Try it!
