Hey everyone,

Currently running into a constant issue with my work desktop Mac Pro 2013 that we've tried several times to fix but keeps persisting. The model is a Late 2013 Mac Pro with a 3.7 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon E5 Processor and 32GB 1866 MHz DDR3 Memory (2x16GB sticks).

Since I began using this model around 2 months ago, while editing on Adobe Premiere Pro, Lightroom Classic and InDesign it unexpectedly freezes and crashes. We initially erased and reformatted the startup disk several times, which didn't work, and recently we fully replaced the startup disk with a new SSD. However, the issue still persists. Despite running at a high speed with what should be sufficient RAM (I'm only ever using one program at a time and editing 1080p footage), it will randomly freeze mid edit, lose the mouse and then automatically restart.

Also, when I leave work I close all applications and set it to sleep, but when I arrive in the morning it's automatically shut down and I need to start it up only for it to say "your computer was restarted because of a problem". Looking for a solution to this as it's highly disruptive and can cause me to lose lots of work. The next solution is to add more RAM, but I feel the RAM isn't the issue as there's no lagging or slow speeds and I don't overwhelm it with multiple programs running.

The error text I'm given is below:

Code:
panic(cpu 4 caller 0xffffff801bf449ad): userspace watchdog timeout: no successful checkins from WindowServer in 120 seconds

Hey everyone,

Looking for a solution to this as it's highly disruptive and can cause me to lose lots of work. The next solution is to add more RAM, but I feel the RAM isn't the issue as there's no lagging or slow speeds and I don't overwhelm it with multiple programs running.

GPU or power supply, in that order. This machine is notorious for having GPU issues (it runs really warm by default, probably cooking the hardware over time).

Mine had the GPU issue first, then came the power supply. New too, not some old dog with various previous owners. None of these kernel panic readouts or the system reboot error codes were particularly helpful: I had to make the tech support guys look at and replace/repair these specific parts to get a stable machine.

Been about two years now - and zero random restarts. *knock-on-wood*

Finland
"userspace watchdog timeout: no successful checkins from WindowServer in 120 seconds"
and
"Mac OS version: 21E230" (=12.3)
suggests OP has got the earlier and borked bootROM (429.60.3.0.0) version which crashes the Mac Pro frequently.
Update to 12.4 (Monterey Full Insallers) which includes the newer bootROM (430.120.6.0.0), and most probably you'll be fixed, unless of course it happens to be a hardware problem like suggested above.

I've tested with various stress test for CPU and GPU, its performing totally fine. I'm facing this crash only with Android Studio.

Suppose it depends what else you are doing with the machine. This application might just stress it enough to cause the crash.

FWIW I had a PC at work at some point that was getting stressed all day but was perfectly stable except for one function in one program and only in the summertime. Bad powersupply. ;)
