MP 1,1-5,1 Random session ejection / reboot with Lightroom

Hello,

I've this issue each time I'm using my computer (5.1 bipro) running BigSur 11.6.5 and OC 0.7.6 and Vega 56
I'm editing my batch with Lightroom and suddenly the computer sort of freeze, I've to wait, then black screen and either the computer reboot or restart the session.

Few things I've in mind, update OC to latest version and see how it run with the same OS. and maybe update to Monterey one day.

Allow me to share what I've capture from the console and some behaviour I find weird.

  1. AdobeIPCBroker[2239]: assertion failed: 20G527: libxpc.dylib + 41679
  2. Service exited due to SIGKILL | sent by mds
  3. com.apple.xpc.launchd[1] (com.dosdude1.PatchUpdater): Service only ran for 0 seconds. Pushing respawn out by 10 seconds.
  4. com.apple.xpc.launchd[1] (com.apple.DumpGPURestart): Service only ran for 1 seconds. Pushing respawn out by 9 seconds.
Not sure if Lightroom has something to do with but it happens always with this software (mainly because I'm using this Mac only with Lightroom :) )
Have you experienced similar issues and how did you fix it?

DumpGPURestart is a sign that the crash is GPU related, may be driver issue, may be hardware issue.

RX580 had this problem in early Mojave if when we use HWAccel. Not always freeze, but happen occasionally, may be once a week, may be every 20min, very random.

Quite a few other Mac (e.g. Macbook Pro) also has this issue in early Big Sur beta, but from memory, I haven't see similar reports on cMP for latest Big Sur.

Anyway, in your case, it shouldn't be HWAccel related. And if you have spare drive. You may try latest OpenCore with Monterey. My experience with Monterey so far is very good. And a new clean macOS installation should also clean up something shouldn't be there (e.g. dosdude patcher updater. Even I believe this has nothing to do with your problem, but it just shouldn't be there for a vanilla Big Sur).

Not an expert on the subject but I believe SIGABRT means something really bad is going on and Mac OS decided to crash the process. It gets respawned after 10 secs and Mac OS crashes it again and the cycle goes on.

Looking at this again, it didn't make sense that the DosDude PatchUpdater should be problematic and yes, missed that the first items in each block are asserts (fatal errors) on running AdobeIPCBroker.

Brief web search indicates it is some sort of glue between Adobe CC items and it going down seems to have affected the Mac OS launchd process and several items managed by that; such as the PatchUpdater.

Completely wild guess is that you tried to use something in LightRoom, AdobeIPCBroker was spawned to hook some other component that supplies part or all of the feature and this resulted in a fatal error, possibly because AVX is absent. That then screwed things up with launchd, and misc processes, leading to a crash.

Completely wild guess as said though.

I've experienced the same behaviour while I was using just Bbedit, safari and textedit last weekend. The computer suddenly stopped responding, the fan speed went up and then either the finder started back reacting or just a session reboot.…

I decided to update my opencore to 0.9.3 and once the update done, from what I can see so far with a bit of Lightroom, no bug, no intempestif session reboot or full reboot.

I have to do more work on it soon so will again provide my feedback but my assumption is something was wrong with opencore and a fresh/recent update including latest update of Lily and WhateverGreen did something good to my Mac.

Let's see how long it last!
