iPhone XS Max Recieving Animoji issue over wifi on XS MAX

I just got my iPhone XS Max today. its a nice display to say the least. my girl sent me a few animojis and I noticed that I get the download box upon receiving them. I am on wifi and it seems to take forever for them to come thru. when I click wifi off they appear right away. on the first one I didn't switch wifi off and ended up getting a icon that looked like and unknow attachment to the system. but when I have wifi off they come thru just fine. With wifi on they usually take forever to come thru. could this be one if the wifi issues that seems to be cropping up?

I had some weird stutter on the first on I received on the new device. But this occurred occasionally on my X as well. I have not compared WiFi to Cellular. But the one today was on really fast WiFi and choppy at first.
