Rendering on new iMac 2.1ghz for 2 weeks..

All that and after the two weeks of rendering you will end up with about 15 to 20 minutes of footage (+or- depending on complexity).

Do not worry about it, that is what a computer is made for. Besides if it blows up, send your complaints to Apple and they will send you a new one.

That is true, AA rendering takes a while. So does radiosity, environmental effects, etc..

I had to cut most of the good post production effects from my 3D reel, just because it would have taken a month to render it all.

Not true. Happened to me on a 1.9GHz G5 at 99%.

Sorry, PowerBook G3 it was a typo. Been typing G4 and G5 for such a long time since the G3 was phased out. Force of habit.

It should be fine. I found out how to change the speed of your fans in Mac OS X, I'll see if I can find the file to configure it again.

Another alternative is to buy a x86 machine with more horsepower behind it. G5 is pretty out dated compared to newer AMD and Intel processors.
