Repeated restarts

I've downloaded and installed Sierra on a Macbook Air 2012, and it is repeatedly shutting down with an error almost as soon as I try to do anything. Can't find anything here or elsewhere to describe the same thing, so I assume it's not very common, but is anyone else getting this? Any ideas on how to resolve it?
