Hi, I’ve been reading and this is my first post.

I am ready to replace my iPad Air2. I know there is an announcement coming next week. I don’t plan on buying one of the shiny, new, expensive iPads that will be introduced. But I know that new introductions could mean that existing stock may have price drops.

I have an opportunity to buy an iPad Pro 10.5, with 256GB, WiFi only, for $650. (Apple currently has it priced at $799.) I am thinking of jumping on this now. Seller has a 15 day return policy. If for some reason the October 30 event makes me change my mind about the iPad Pro I’m considering, I have time to return and then order/pre-order from Apple. I would have to pull the trigger in the next few days for availability at the $650 pricing.

I do virtually all my computer work on my iPad, but I work for myself and don’t need a ton of bells and whistles. I’m not that geeky, either, so don’t need the latest and greatest. I can continue with my Air 2 for a while, nothing wrong with it, I may pass it along to a family member.

WWYD? Buy iPad Pro 10.5 now, keep sealed/keep receipt and see what happens Oct 30 for any pricing changes Apple announces? Am I just looking for confirmation that I should do that? Probably. Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Depends on your desired screen size, i would think.

Is it possible that when new iPads announced the current Pros (largest screen sized iPads) will disappear and you’ll only be left with what’s in stock at certain retailers?

I upgraded my Air 2 to a 10.5" 256GB LTE Pro and am really happy with it. I don't see an upgrade need from that any time soon.

Thanks, @sparksd .
That is what I would be hoping, that I would not need to change for several years. The 256GB is a size that should be perfectly adequate for my needs. What do you think of the size difference, and any weight difference between the two? I think the current iPad 9.7” is the same size as the Air 2, but I have not had hands on the 10.5” Pro. I always keep mine in a leather case/cover, and if I do upgrade, I would get the same case, just larger. Can’t be that much bigger in footprint. Is it?

@Tdosthp , I’m not sure what you are asking. I don’t want to go to the 12”, or the expected 11”, nor the mini. Something in the 9.7” to 10.5” will be just right. Would you get the 10.5” Pro if you were in my position, to grab it before it is unavailable?

Thanks to both of you for for your thoughts.

Don't notice any weight difference (just over an ounce) --

Size is not that much larger but I like the larger screen, ProMotion, brighter, etc. I find I use the 10.5 a lot more than I did the Air 2 - subjectively, it is just so much nicer. I tried a 12.9 but it was too large for my tastes.

I would imagine that the new 11” will be similar in size to the current 10.5. If cost is your main factor, i would go for it. If I am not impressed with the new iPads, my plan is to try and snag a 10.5 before they are gone.

Edit: also depends on the rumored new  Pencil and its features AND backwards compatibility.

Just the info I needed to compare the two, @sparksd , thank you.

@Tdosthp , that makes sense. I think I am going to get the 10.5” Pro while I can, and at a good price. I also have a MBP, so don’t really need a big iPad along with it.

Thanks for the input, all!

Man I’m in this same predicament with a 10.5 open box shipped for 500$...

Ugh.. I want it so bad. I doubt I’ll have the cash for the latest and greatest anyway. Maybe I should just pull the trigger.

When I did the upgrade, I sweated it due to the cost and questioning the need. I ended up wishing I had done it sooner - the 10.5 is a great device.

Funny part is I have been waiting for the 10.5 to go on sale all year and now that it is; I’m still hesitant. Mostly due to me knowing this major redesign I think is going to totally redefine the iPad lineup. I don’t really need a new iPad.. my MacBook Pro and work iMac handles most of my tasks- but I have a Air 1 that is a snail. I miss having an iPad around to get some side work done when I head to upstate NY or go on trips with friends or even in front of the TV. Honestly my air really isn’t capable of it anymore and I’m still rocking a 2012 pro non retina with a SSD.. it’s still capable but it’s so heavy to throw in a bag.

If I was going to upgrade from my ipad air 2(which is fantastic and still works like a charm) i would snag the 10.5 for the lower price.

Well someone at Best Buy owes you some comission...made the jump to the 10.5 a few hours ago with a grey Smart Cover.
