I bought a 160GB seagate from a retail store and the thing is on the fritz and has not worked right in the past week I've owned it so its going back to the store.

during that time i've put my iphoto library, music, and several docs. I had it formated as HFS journaled.

the first thing I did was drag everything off the drive to the trash-can & erase. this technically does nothing.

the next thing I did was repartition the drive back to its full size, and zero out the data.

next I created a disk image that was the exact size of the free space on the drive 148GB and told it to use 128Bit encryption. used a random 25 character password.

then I filled that partition with basically garbage files. that where around 4 gigs & then erased.

rinse & repeat for good measure.

safe to say this drive can go back and my past is off the drive?

or should I zero out the data again?
