I was looking something up on google using safari onmy ipad and I get this pop up alert saying suspicious activity might have been detected and to call a number. I pressed the ok button and it kept popping up over and over again for like five times real fast. The rest of safari was dimmed out and I could not do anything. I knew this was a scam so I did not call the numbers or reveal any info. Eventually I was able to close that website tab and everything was fine. Should I be concerned about malware getting installed behind the scenes? I have gone to apple support communities and this is obviously a scam that's happened on safari at random for a while. Thanks.

Things don't really get installed or executed on their own in iOS unless you are jailbroken perhaps and even then not usually. Nothing to worry about.
