no it was 4 before, its just 1440x900 was the max (far right). now the lowest option has knocked off afaik, everything moved down one (or to the left of that scaler menu) and 1680x1050 took the place of where 1440x900 option used to be (far right)

terrible explanation but hope that helps. I'm half asleep this morning

Thanks, just making sure I didn't screw anything up. Thanks for the tip!

This is a really great tutorial. i gave it a shot and it worked beautifully!

Just wish we had more retina wallpapers without having to scour the net.

It's hard for me to read about the fun things you guys are doing with your rMB when mine has still not come and isn't due for another three weeks. :(

I can only imagine...

For anyone interested, the following line should add the support for the HiDPI 2x 1536x960 resolution (couldn't test, at your own risk):
<data>AAAMAAAAB4AAAAAB</data>

I can confirm 1536x960 works and is in fact pretty well suited to the 12" screen. I find 1680x1050 to exhibit some noticeable text blur (smoothing on or not) that isn't as noticeable at 960p.

Good balance between IQ and real estate.

I could not get this resolution to work - yet the 1680x1050 works fine...

I copied the exact code as above and entered it into my file (which still has the 1680x1050 code in it, so I added it below) and rebooted, but only have the option for 1680x1050 in display preferences (along with the default Apple options).

Anyone else have issues?

They both worked fine for me. You must be missing something in the process. Probably not deleting the old file and replacing it with the new, or not authenticating, etc. It's very simple, and if it worked with the first string, no reason it won't with the second.

I also. I cannot seem to get 1536x960 resolution to work. The 1680x1050 script works fine. Puzzled??!

is the 1536x960 resolution the same aspect ratio as 1440x900?

What's the maximum resolution you can go with this hack? I tried 1920x1200 but it wouldn't work. 1680x1050 works fine.

Is the modified file still belonging to root/wheel and has the 644 access rights?
Have you tried restoring the original file and add only the line for the support of 2x 1536x960 to be sure?

This was via sudo vim /System/Library/Displays/Overrides/DisplayVendorID-610/DisplayProductID-a027

Don't forget to reboot after.

Still cannot get it to work.

Maybe someone who has this working can upload their file?

Can you clarify the "not working" part?

a) The RDM menu doesn't show the extra resolutions at all?

b) It only shows the added 1680x1050 res?

c) Other?

Can you also confirm that you edited the file matching your display model/type as per the first post? I assume most are the same but there may be differences in model type depending on manufacturing batches.

Post a copy of your file here for us to inspect. I would post mine but on mobile right now!

Is there any way to try this on a display model in an Apple store? I'm wondering if you need admin rights. Maybe downloading and running RDM on a demo model would allow for the same kind of in-store test?

Yes you need admin rights to change the file. You have to authenticate as admin during the process.

Thanks for this resource! I have my 12" Retina running at 1680x1050 2x resolution and it's been amazing!

I'm the one who couldn't get A027 display model work with all custom resolutions herein this topic. I've tried all possible ways.

But i instead edited the A028 display model.
It's worked. all of custom resolutions are worked very well including 1536x960 resolution.
