I have installed High Sierra on an iMac9.1, early 2009, using dosdude1's Patcher Tool (what a genius!).
http://dosdude1.com/highsierra/
It worked fine –or so I thought – until I took a siesta. As usual, the iMac went to sleep & my phone disconnected from its WIFI hotspot. Nevertheless, without notice, about 4 GB was downloaded from sources unknown. That took me off the web for three weeks due to data restrictions.

Searching my system off-line, logs in the Console suggested Apple was the culprit, attempting to install Security Update 2020-005, iTunes 12.8.3, iTunes Device Support Update and Safari 13.1.2. (They must have made multiple attempts since these measure 2.56 GB in total, not the 4 GB logged.) I suppose none of these files are included in the "Install macOS High Sierra" app, downloaded with the Patcher Tool.
When I reconnected, downloads galloped ahead again. Checking App Store Preferences, I found "Automatically search for Updates" was ticked, along with "Download...in the background" & "Install system data files...". I didn't tick them; Apple must have, by default. Unticking the boxes and restarting stopped Apple's download attempts (though they continue to unlock the Preferences pane, which I had locked).

Looking for freestanding installers to download on public WiFi, a link for Safari 13.1.2 turned up –

This worked successfully and is now updated.
From Apple's download pages I got .dmg files for Security Update 2020-005 (a whopping 2.16 GB) and iTunes 12.8.3, but there was no trace of the iTunes Device Support Update.
https://support.apple.com/downloads
iTunes, too, installed successfully. Not so the Security Update – it gave the message “This software is not supported on your system”.

QUESTION: How can I install the Security Update on a patched High SIerra?
Can dosdude1’s Patch Tool do the job somehow, OR are there copies of SecUpd2020-005HighSierra somewhere that won’t block me?
