late 2009 macbook running El Capitan.

Shift key is stuck, so it keeps booting in safe mode. I don't have an external keyboard handy and need into my computer. No hope of buying a new one due to poverty, so that isn't a solution right now.

Is there still a keystroke to bypass this? I thought it was holding C on the white screen, but that didn't work.

Yes, I've cleaned the keys thoroughly. It's been like this for a while, and when it first happened I tried everything, sometimes more than once. I've gotten it past safe boot with some keystroke before, I just don't remember what it was as it has been a while since I used the laptop (its functionality is greatly reduced with a permanently depressed shift key anyway so I use it very rarely and shut it down even less frequently).
