I've noticed that a lot of people have been saying they want OS X on the iPad pro. Looking at the last couple of iOS and Mac OS releases, it seems that Apple aren't converging the 2 platforms but instead focusing on their separate strengths and are creating features like handoff etc so the devices work together. they also understand that the success of the iPad is that it's a platform optimised for touch with apps that take the interface into account. This is where Windows convertibles have failed.

Keeping this in mind, should Apple do more to make the Pro a companion device? imagine using the pro as a drawing tablet with the output displayed on the Mac. Have native second screen support using the Pro. Use the Pro's screen as a control panel for Video and Photo editing software.

It would be contrary to Apple's post PC strategy but I think that's what the iPad Air is for. This is already a niche product, why not just take the risk.
