I've tried XBMC from my MBP Airplay mirrored up. Works very well.

Would really love it, and other tweaks/apps on my ATV3 though.

Should I hold out or just give up and put my mind to rest?

What do we think, folks?

It's likely that there will never be a jailbreak for the Apple TV 3. They lack a known bootrom exploit needed or an injection vector needed to jailbreak it.

I think if you research this (never mind - I did the research for you !), you will find he was speaking of the Apple TV2 perhaps being ready on evad3rs release day, if not shortly after.

Notice it clearly says the jailbreak will not be applicable for ATV3

His comments about a possible jailbreak for Apple TV3 were that he believes the jailbreak for that device may come about through an exploit in PhotoStream.

Darn it, so they won't be a jailbreak for the ATV3? I've been putting off getting an Apple TV3 because of this.

Give up and try to move on without a jb. It will be difficult, I'm sure, but through support from this site and perseverance, you will triumph.

I'm in the same boat but considering the atv3 is my first atv I guess I don't really know what I'm missing. Regardless, it's a great device and I use it daily.

So glad I was able to find a second appletv2 on craigslist for cheap!

Wonder how the airplay will work using xbmc from a JB Ipad or Iphone streamed to AppleTV...

Plex works great through airplay from Ipad.

Why would he tweet about possible exploit in photo stream, apple will find out and we'll never get the jailbreak. Dammit.

Haha yeah I'll be selling mine soon. I only bought it because I thought it'd probably be jailbreakable, pity that it's not.

It's always a laugh when trying to find news on it on Google. Every time there's a link saying "soandso has said it's been jailbroken and it should be released Any Day Now!" and there have been for months. What they're really doing of course is harvesting clicks for ad revenue or in some cases selling fakes, malware etc.

I love my atv3 even with it not being jailbroken. I'm honestly not sure jailbreaking it would benefit me much though.

But it is sad the option is not even there for you to do so.
