Sierra stopped loading saying -404 seconds remaining

A friend gave me an iMac and we erased the hard drive. Once I erased the hard drive I tried to reinstall Sierra and it hangs up saying there are -404 seconds remaining and doesn’t go any farther. Is there something I can do to get it passed this point?
