Hi There,
I have an iphone xs max and i really like the front camera in that , got to know that it uses Smart HDR.
Now i want to have a back up iphone ( looking for 8 plus as i really like the design and i want bigger screen) and it seems it use auto HDR ( not the smart HDR)
But both phones uses 7 megapixel so i wonder is Smart HDR a software thing or hardware thing?
Just Curious , Is there any software or app or setting that i can apply in iphone 8 plus front camera and make it look like xs max's front camera?

Thanks in advance.

There is HDR, Smart HDR and Next-gen Smart HDR (11 line)

Probably A12 image processor is capable to capture more images (in various exposure) and then merge them to the one.

now i see it

Improved camera performance is Apple's number one sales pitch for new iPhones. The 8 Plus uses older tech.

Sorry for the late response
Actually you can apply a trick by turning on the hdr by default and tweaking the exposure a little bit
When you’re taking a selfie just choose the exposure over the highlights
And then use the slider to bump up the brightness a bit
Then take the shot
Guarantee both shadows and highlights are gonna be even better the Smart Hdr
But this trick will make the image noisy and sharpened alot
