So the "other" was growing out of control. I also noticed that TM was not backing up when the Mac was sleeping. It would start to back up soon as I turn it on and it was always around 8GB almost every time. It would say finished but it took hours to complete. On a chance, I took another HD and changed TM to select that as a backup and start New. I then removed the old one and erased it and set it aside. I let it do its thing, made sure Mac to never sleep so that it would finish. After it finished, I turned the sleep default back on. It was still showing this huge 280GB of other. Today after waking up the Mac, it did a progress bar like it was starting up, but no chime and I had to log back in again. This time it shows other at "12GB"!!!!... it got rid of the 280GB of other! That was the fix. TM must have gotten corrupted and stuck.
