Speakable Items Problems

Does anybody use any custom Speakable Items AppleScripts under Panther? Because I seem to be entirely unable to do so -- when I create a custom AppleScript and drop it in the ~/Library/Speech/Speakable Items/ folder and say the command, my computer recognizes the command, but doesn't do anything. It's as if the script that I had created was blank.

I didn't have this problem with Jaguar, but I do know that many people were having it, and I've just been bitten by it now under Panther. Any suggestions?
