Gmail and Google Maps still don’t support split view. Are there any good solutions for using these using 3rd party apps or something? Using Apple Maps isn’t an option because it shows no relevant information for places whereas Google Maps does.

Why doesn’t Google bother updating these to work with features that have been part of iOS for quite a while now?

Because split view is something that people don't use much and although Google does develop brilliant apps for iOS but their focus is to make the existing services better rather than supporting specific native feature support which is available to limited users. Basic software development strategy.

I think with the iOS 11 focus on iPad multi tasking we will see greater adoption of Split View support. And by “think” I mean “really f’ing hope.”
