I have a sixth generation iPad which does not go into split view. All of the literature says it should work on fifth generation and above. OS is 13.4.1. What did I miss?

Make sure that multitasking is switched on in settings app. It should be on by default but worth checking.

Settings > Home Screen & Dock > Multitasking

Also what method are you using to try and initiate split view and which apps?

Aha! Everything I read said that multitasking and dock was under Settings -> General. Never saw a separate Home Screen heading mentioned. I turned on Multitasking there, and was good to go.
