Hello everyone, maybe you guys can help me decide on which of these two would be the best fit for me according to your experience. I am a new photographer.

After I did enough research it all came down to Squarespace.com and Wix.com, I tried both sites and I feel comfortable using either of them.

Things I need my photography site to do.

• Have an awesome design.
• Be able to sell digital photos online.
• Be cheaper from the other.

• Squarespace.com I'm looking at $12 per month (1 year plan) limits 25 pages, and it offers eCommerce.
https://www.squarespace.com/pricing...expert&campaign=WIXvsSS&subcampaign=#websites

• wix.com offers the same for $17 per month (1 year plan), has no limits on pages, but it's 5 bucks more per month.

My current website www.oscarmalo.com is running on wordpress, but I had a few problems with the template when I updated wordpress to the latest version, so I had to restore my site, and I it doesn't have the ability to sell online.

I hope I provided enough information, thanks for the help.

That was an option, but I also had some compatibility issues between wordpress and the template I picked, maybe a different template?

To be honest, based on experience of maybe a dozen sites of different ecommerce solutions, they are all going to be a ball ache of some description.

I would look at your template and see if it is fixed using a different one, or try and work out why it broke and see it is can be fixed?

Do you guys have any wordpress photography templates you can recommend? really, the only issue I have is the template giving me problems.

No sorry. My woocommerce experience is for my cousin who sells exotic meats. Wildonmeats.com

BTW I don't agree with his business. I like meat but some of the offerings I think shouldn't be farmed for food. No agenda... Just don't want flamed for "supporting him". I am on the fence considering refusing support going forward.

did you make a child-theme for the theme? it will help avoid the problem with updates and save any changes you make when updating.

Also photocrati could be a good plugin for the photos

Maybe I missed something in the original post.

Besides taking ages to load and looking a bit 'meh'...what's wrong with your current site?
I see you mention 'the template is giving you problems', but how so?

I see all this talk of commerce, but let's be honest, no one is going to buy any of your pics. So, what's the issue?

Seems a tad harsh but perhaps not meant to be so ... a statement on the fact that few people pay for anything on the internet, people not interested in paying for photos of others or places they haven't experienced themselves, or something else?

Cheers

Wasn't meant as harsh, but honest. I checked out the website and there's some nice stuff on there. Nothing commercially viable though.

What about something specifically for photographers, like SmugMug.com (there are plenty others)? Takes care of printing & shipping, etc.

Oooft! Call it how you see it mate...

It is a bit slow but that could be for a lot of reasons including low specs on your virtual server.

That could be true. But I ask you...which image are you about to purchase?

Well, none because I take my own pictures. :)

I agree the content is too specific anything with people in it that are recognisable are immediately only of interest to those people and their circles of F&F.. bur I don't know anything...

Lol... Mate you know I am clueless about this photo lark... But the IT bit... Well I know that...

I was making suggestions to get him up and running. I have no right to decide whether they will or will not be successful. Maybe these aren't the pictures they intend to sell.... No idea...

Technically; three of five galleries wouldn't load on my machine (a not too shabby MBP on a good internet connection).
Financially; why would I 'buy' these hipster looking images anyway (the ones that would load)?

Again, I don't mean to be harsh. But sometimes we get ahead of ourselves and I think this is one of those times.

The issues comes when I update wordpress to it's latest version. I agree, no one will buy those images, but I'm looking ahead. I am considering keeping this site for now, and save some cash.

The images that are up now, are only of family (my kids) I tend to upload more landscape and have the ability for customers to buy their own "headshots"? I will just keep wordpress for now, commerce will be placed on hold.
[doublepost=1473196317][/doublepost]This is mainly what I'm using it for right now.

I decided to stay with Wordpress and just bought a theme for $65 dollars. I like what I have now, it just needs a little tuning. Thank you all for your suggestions. I was also successfully able to set up woocommerce (it's off right now).
