I just bought Portal 2 for mac, and everytime I press play, it always crashes:

"portal2_osx quit unexpectedly."

This is the generated report by OS X:

"Process: portal2_osx [27443]
Path: /Users/USER/Library/Application Support/Steam/*/portal2_osx
Identifier: portal2_osx
Version: ???
Code Type: X86 (Native)
Parent Process: steam [27345]
Responsible: bash [27339]
User ID: 501

Date/Time: 2013-12-29 15:40:18.285 +0000
OS Version: Mac OS X 10.9.1 (13B3116)
Report Version: 11
Anonymous UUID: 8C0305BA-61DF-EFA8-1545-FF2B5447624E

Sleep/Wake UUID: A7B2CC77-68CF-4323-9D94-7941426751D6

Crashed Thread: 0 Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread

Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS)
Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at 0x0000000000000000"

It does it with both graphic cards : Iris pro and Nvidia 750M.

I'm using a late 2013 retina macbook pro 15", model ME294 (2.3Ghz, Nvidia 750M, 16 Gb RAM, 512 Gb SSD).

Anyone is getting the same crash?

Thanks in advance.

I've never had that issue with any of Valve's games, and I'm using a much more limited setup. I'd recommend contacting Steam support.

Thank you for your replies.

I just identified the problem, I will share it here if anyone else is afected.

The culprit was gfxCardSatus v2.3.

Portal 2 only starts if Dynamic Switching is on. If you try to force integrated or Discrete, it'll always crash with that error.

This is odd, as it is the first 3d app that displays this behaviour.

Dude there is no way you'll read this but here I am almost 5 years to the day with the exact same setup and the exact same problem and this post saved my ass. I bought the game and was so excited to finally play it and it's been like a week with me searching around and trying all the other threads that everyone said didn't work to no avail. And you had the answer all along. So thank you, sincerely for taking a minute to share what you had learned, and merry xmas or kwanzaa or festivus or whatever you celebrate and thank you again.
