Strange P6901 Protein...

Hey guys, I just started folding again after a long time off. I'm running the SMP bigadv client on my Windows i7 box, and I have a couple questions.

First, I'm folding the P6901 (R21, C10, G6) protein, and according to FahMon, it's worth 552,139 points. Is this correct?!

Second, at this rate I won't finish it. The deadline is in 94 hours, and I'm at 1%, completing a percent every hour and 20 minutes. (So I need 132 hours to finish it.) Task manager has all 8 cores at 100% on my i7-920, so there's not a lot I can do, is there a way to switch to a different protein, or should I just let the deadline run out?

Sure, I'm running a shortcut of the SMP version:

FahMon apparently pulled itself together, and is now reporting a more reasonable 8955 points for this protein. The deadline is still the same though.

I don't think the 920 is fast enough for bigadv's. That or something else running on the computer is sapping away cpu cycles (bigadv's are especially prone to this). It may be able to run enough threads for bigadv's, but the clockspeed is obviously too low with that frame time. I would just run -advmethods and you should get better results.

So you have something to compare to, my i7-2600k (4.5ghz) box does the 6901 in about 26 minutes per 1%.

You can dump this WU by just deleting the work folder. That should do the trick.

552,139 points sounds about right if your overclocked to 10.3ghz but if not then something is wrong


Anyways. Try and do a slight overclock to 3.5-8ghz and you'll be finishing bigadvs in no time. You need to fully complete 10 bigadv WUs to start getting their bonus. You will get 75k + points when you complete it. I get closely 90k points when I complete one, which is around 55k PPD.

Don't be afraid to OC, the 920s are the best and you can probably get close to 4ghz on air. See how far you can go on stock voltages. I got a really good chip as I'm at 4.2ghz @1.26v and it's 24/7 folding stable. Lower volts = lower temps and vice versa.

Just make sure you are using an aftermarket cooler if you OC. If you try and OC to 4Ghz with the stock....
My i7 920 OC'ed to 3.8 runs bigadvs like a champ. Too bad the OS X client hasn't been updated... I wanna run bigadvs again....
