Stuttering and slowness--anyone else having this issue?

I've been having this really strange game issue recently, and am curious if anyone else has seen it as well.

When playing Max Payne, at random points, the game slows down and starts to skip. It's so bad that I have to quit and restart the game.

I thought this was a Max Payne-specific issue, but this happens with Oni and even The Movies. I've tried restarting, closing applications, nothing works. I'm on a MacBook 2 GHz, 2 GB of RAM, plenty of free hard drive space.

I'm at my wit's end here--any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks all!

I suspect its a heat issue. Is the notebook on a desk or somewhere soft like a sofa or bed? Try putting it flat on a desk if it was on a bed or sofa or something like that.
