I discovered the command line pdftk Server can be a great help, additionally. Download the newest Mac version here.

I take it you are familiar with this program. I'm interested in 248 bit encryption. I see there is 124 encryption and it says you can override this... do you know the command? I see that it is run from the Terminal.

I've never used that function but it looks like the encryption choice is 40bit or 128bit (the default).

I found the program when I once was looking for a way to combine two pdfs...one of a scan of a long document's odd pages and the other the even pages (from a scanner that didn't have "duplex" scanning). Faster than shuffling a deck of cards!
