Surround Sound Card in Mac Pro

Hi,

I was wondering if a Creative Surround Sound Card will work on my Mac Pro if I buy one at CompUSA? Kind of like this one.

No it won't work. But Mac Pro's already come with S/PDIF out, so why would you want analog surround when you already have digital surround?

I'd have to agree. The only option is an external card, which you have to look on ebay for.

No cheap $40 sound cards for the Mac Pro, but if you want to spend enough money to buy a car for a card (or card and box) -- you can go to a Pro level PCI-Express audio card.

Otherwise the FW/USB solutions are about it.

i'm not a gamer or anything, but what's wrong with the built-in s/pdif? I know that logitech, klipsh, and a few others have surround sound speakers with s/pdif connections.

This USB soundcard does work with the Mac Pro, but only when running Windows, not OS X.

OP does not specify the intended use. Perhaps something like the Firewave fits the bill.

Many video games do not use dolby digital or DTS which would essentialy be required for this to work with gaming.

Which would be fine since pretty much all of my gaming is done in XP.
