I'm thinking of buying a NAS for centralized backup (with access from different devices), simple cloud backup and to offload a small internal storage in the Mac mini M1. Is Synology compatible with Apple Silicon now in 2023? As it is a costly investment, I want it to go smoothly.

Anything you can do with a Synology NAS from an Intel Mac you can also do from an ARM Mac. This depends only on the operating system and applications and has nothing to do with the processor architecture.

Any CpmterApplwe/Windows machine or Linux machine can stlll see a NAS or NAS share!!! Even M-2 machine have no problem, does that answer your Question! Besides Synology uses fork on Linux to make their operation GIU!

I know they've had a bad reputation lately because of ransomware but you can also check out QNAP's systems as well.
