I think that the release of the iPad Mini today is a cash grab by Apple...and it will be very successful. I will go look at one and I expect it to be very nice. However, I think some people will be upset again around March 2013.
What many people are going to buy today may very well be the low end iPad Mini for the next year or so. Yes, the specs may improve slightly, but that may be it. What we may see in March is something similar to 15" vs 13" retina MBP. An iPad mini with iPad 4 specs priced the same or around $50 less.
