Background:

Over the years there has been some discussion regarding the use of an Apple LED Cinema Display with an Apple Thunderbolt Display all chained to one Thunderbolt port. It was concluded that as long as the LED Cinema Display is the last in the chain and it is connected to a Thunderbolt peripheral and not directly to the TB Display it should work. In all the posts i've read people used a Lacie Little Big Disk in between the TB Display and the LED Cinema Display. I have provided links to these threads at the bottom of this post.

Issue:

I currently have a Mac mini Server (Mid 2011) with a Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB card. Instead of using the Lacie LBD I am trying to use a OWC Helios (TB1 version) to chain all of these devices. The LED Cinema Display is not being recognized at the end of the chain (MM -> TB Display using AIO cable -> Helios -> LED Display | The Helios shows no device connected under the TB tab in the System Report). If I remove the Thunderbolt Display and connect the Helios directly to the Mac Mini the LED Cinema Display lights up and works correctly. I do not have a PCIe card installed in the Helios when preforming any of this. I don't think that should make a difference.

Question:

Any idea why the Lacie LBD works as the middleman to light the LED Cinema Display but the Helios does not? Whether or not there is an explanation, I still need a solution! I would prefer to not have to buy a Lacie LBD to remedy this situation. Does anyone know of a (edit: cheap) OS X compatible PCIe graphics card with DisplayPort (w/ adapter) or Mini DisplayPort that I could install in the Helios to drive this LED Cinema Display?

I am also open to other suggestions. Thank you in advance for your help!
