I understand the meaning of what a 64 bit processor can do, but what I don't understand is what's new in Tiger concerning "64 bit processes". Didn't Panther allow you to run 64 bit applications and access more RAM? Could someone please explain what Panther did, and what Tiger will do that Panther didn't?

Panther allows some, it's like 42 (or 48 -bit) extensions. Tiger will extend this to 64-bit. My assumption is they couldn't get 64-bit before Panther shipped and developed 64-bit for Tiger.
