Hi
I've had time machine performing regular backups for a while now to the same disk and recently they stopped working. I have not changed anything relating to settings or how it is plugged in but I get the message as shown in the attachment.
Help appreciated,
Thanks.

Something could be wrong with the external drive. Have you checked to see if it mounts properly?

The drive is there, both the backup and other partition I have on it are find and can be written to if i just copy something.

What does it say when you go to System Preferences>Time Machine>and click on the red "i" next to "Latest backup: Failed"?

Try restarting the computer. I've seen this happen a few times and a simple restart fixing it.

I had this once, a couple of years ago.

In the end I had to reformat the external HDD, good job TM is only a backup.

No problems since.

However I do not keep TM running all the time, just power up after major downloads or folders clean up, perhaps once every two days.

I now have backups going back two years on my 500gb TM HDD, which I needed a few days ago.
