How does it make sense that a GTX 590, which is what, technically two GTX 580's strapped together scores less then ONE GTX 580?
How does 3Dmark calculate this performance? In gaming the 590 destroys the 580

The 590 is two 580 cores strapped together, but then downclocked to cut temps and power consumption. It looks like that whoever ran those 3DMark numbers managed to do so on a single 580 core.

Another oddity is that the 680 scored less than a 580. That isn't right either. It should be around the 660Ti level.

Ahh ok, that makes sense. False results then :D

Well the gaming performance of the 680 is much better then the 580 from what I have read the 580 is superior in openGL and openCL and CUDA in 3D programs etc
