I noticed this morning when placing an order for an iPhone that by selecting installment payments on the Apple Card sales tax was calculated based on the net cost of the phone (sales price minus the trade-in of my old phone). It saved us a bit of money.

Is this also true when you do a trade-in but make one payment through Apple Card (and receive a refund for your trade-in, rather than instant credit)? In other words, does the refund you receive for your trade-in once Apple processes it also include a refund for a portion of the sales tax you paid?

I doubt it.
I am surprised they charge less tax for trading in.
I don't pay sales tax so I didn't notice it.

Spoke with Apple and apparently in some states you're refunded the trade-in value of your phone as well as the portion of the sales tax you paid so that you're only taxed on the net price.
