I just recently got a mac book and wanted to know how i can transfer songs from my pc's external hard drive onto my Itunes with out messing up the system

If the external drive is formatted as NTFS (and it probably is) you can plug it into your Mac and read (copy) the files off of it. Better yet, if this is the case, open up iTunes and do an "Add to library" while pointing it to the directory on the drive where the iTunes music files are.

I just ordered my first Mac today and have the same ?
Could I simply use a flash/jump drive, load song sonto it from my OC, then just use that on my incoming macbook, or are compatible jump drives not the same?
