Transfer video from MAC to PC

I usually export movies from IMovie on a MAC to a DV tape deck and from there I import to a PC with Adobe Premiere if I have some special editing to do. When I want to transfer video from MAC to PC or even vice versa I would like to go direct via a Firewire cable. The Canopus video capture card on my PC uses a proprietary interface so that I cannot go direct from MAC to PC by that route. I have been told that I could use a generic firewire card on the PC and connect from MAC to PC that way. Does anybody have any experience doing what I am trying to accomplish?

Now, to your problem. If I understand you correctly, you want to do IP over FireWire. Why don't you just use an Ethernet connection? Both is relatively easy with OS X and XP, though.
