I have a document with columns. There is a black background behind the text word "Flight" that I can't get rid of or change its properties. I don't know how I made it, it may have been started in Word and updated in Pages.
The cursor will not go to the beginning of the black background, only to the beginning of the text.
It is not a Highlight either, I tried that.
I want to add some text before the Background w/Flight text but if I put the cursor at the beginning of "Flight" and hit the Enter button, it moves the word down a line and brings the background with it (see 2nd image). If I put the cursor at the beginning of "Flight" and hit Delete nothing happens.
Any idea what this is and how to manage it?

What editing app is giving you problems?
in Pages but I actually figured it out: In the Format Tab under the Text tab I changed the style to Default and the black box went away. I could then add a Highlight to the Flight word.
Thanks for responding.
