SystemPreferences>Users and Groups>Password>Change Password

Every time I login to my imac, I type a password. I would like to change that password. But whenever I enter "Change Password" in Users and Groups and enter the old password in the "Old Password" blank field, I get the message "You did not enter a password for this user account."

Of course I did. I enter it all the time. When I log in, when I install software, and so on, I enter that password. I don't understand this.

Did you also enter a new password (twice)?

Do you have multiple Admin accounts on the unit?

If so, log out of your current account, log into one of the other accounts and change the password for your main account.

Then log into your main account with the new password…
