Unable to type in password after sleep mode

Hi

Twice in the last 2 days I have been unable to type in my password after my laptop comes out of sleep.

To get back in, I have to shutdown the laptop with the power button and then restart it. Once this is done, I can type in the password.

Any idea why this is happening?

I have a 2013 Mac air using High Sierra.

The built-in keyboard is unresponsive at times when waking from sleep mode. Try resetting the SMC.
