That's is really big news. Assuming Tim Sweeney doesn't do anything stupid, this could spell very great things for Mac gaming. Effortless Mac ports of the majority of games since most games use Unreal, maybe even the return of day in date Mac versions.

Seems to be the same update they announced back in February but it took three months for the tech channels to catch up.

They were probably waiting for the appeals in the Apple vs Epic case to finish. Now that the appeals concluded and the trial practically over, the process of rebuilding bridges can begin, starting with returning Fortnite to Mac and iOS. But to do that, Unreal 5 needed to be native to Apple Silicon since the game now uses Unreal 5.

I expect we can expect the announcement of Fortnite on Apple devices to return sometime in the Summer, probably on the 3rd anniversary of the infamous Project Liberty, because you know damn well they're gonna have a sick sense of humor and declare Fortnite "freed"

It's been available for months. But it wasn't available from the launcher app. Had to be built manually. Wrote about it a few months ago. 5.2 brings it to the launcher and it can be downloaded.
Here's the old version AS native:

Nanite still doesn’t work with no date on if it ever will work.

That’s fine. Nanite is a luxury not a requirement, and most Fortnite players turn it off since it’s a GPU hog and tanks the framerate, in a game where every input matters. Hell most pro Fortnite players play with the graphics as low as they can go so they can see as good as possible with as much frames as possible

That depends on the game right?

Is coming out and the minimum requirement is a 2080Super because they are using all the bells and whistles UE 5.1 has to offer (so it will be missing the procedural landscapes of 5.2).

256 colors are a luxury as well. 16 are more than enough... they used to say.
And most Fortnite players are not the brightest candles on the cake. Performance in multiplayer FPS is determined by tick rate primarily, any FPS above that is pure cosmetics. Also, why does Nanite only apply to Fortnite?

Not much use, because even if using Unreal 5 on WIN10, it can be easily exported to Apple computers because they come with a metal interface (provided the development company is willing to do so), and UE and Unity are not limited to a particular platform.

There won't be many people using Mac computers to create AAA games because it's not realistic or cost-effective. after all

The price of a Mac computer can buy a good assembled computer.
