As I understand it, Apple takes the number of reviews (and how positive they are) into account when they rank different apps. However, when you update an app, I've heard that all your reviews from the last version are gone. Is that correct? In that case, it's pointless to put in a lot of work in getting reviews if you plan to update your app soon... right?

The reviews aren't gone; from a user perspective they're available by clicking on All Versions. However, I don't know whether they're used for ranking (I'm not an iOS developer).

Pretty sure they are still used for rank but no people won't see them on the store.

Tbh a lot of people hold off updating so they don't lose their ratings and it's too bad but apple created the problem so it is what it is I guess.
