Do I have to install newer version of macos to upgrade Snow Leopard to Mojave on my 3.1?
Most of the support threads here tend to be geared towards the MP51 and not the MP31 you indicate you have. Many are not applicable to the MP31 at all and others often need some minor amendments.
The Mojave firmware updates thread is not applicable to the MP31 as there is
*basically* no firmware update for that unit (for Mojave or for anything else). Actually, you do not want any firmware update of any kind automatically running on the MP31. The model only ever had one firmware update and as this was issued about a month after release, most units came from the factory with it already installed.
So you can go straight to Mojave on the MP31 but you need to bear that you cannot just install and run Mojave on the MP31.
Options for going into `Unsupported Territory` as at mid 2023:
- LoSierra:
- Set the `-no_compat_check` boot argument and you are good to go
- Assumes you can figure out how to install LoSierra and that you are running a suitable GPU
- Alternative: DosDude LoSierra Installer to install a patched version
- Didn't work for me recently
- Alternative: OpenCore (via "Non-OCLP" methods)
- The OCLP does not support installing OpenCore for LoSierra
- MyBootMgr can set OpenCore up for installing and running LoSierra
- HiSierra:
- As above with `-no_compat_check` if you install HiSierra in HFS+
- The MP31 does not have native APFS support
- The firmware can be hacked to add APFS support
- OpenCore and RefindPlus can supply APFS without firmware hack
- Alternative: DosDude HiSierra Installer to install a patched version
- Didn't work for me recently
- Alternative: OpenCore (via "Non-OCLP" methods)
- The OCLP does not support installing OpenCore for HiSierra
- MyBootMgr can set OpenCore up for installing and running HiSierra
- Mojave:
- Use the DosDude Mojave Installer to install a patched version
- Worked well last time I tried (quite some time ago now)
- Alternative: OpenCore (via "Non-OCLP" methods)
- The OCLP does not support installing OpenCore for Mojave
- MyBootMgr can set OpenCore up for installing and running Mojave
- Catalina:
- Use the DosDude Catalina Installer to install a patched version
- Worked well when I tried recently
- Alternative: OpenCore (via "Non-OCLP" methods)
- The OCLP does not support installing OpenCore for Catalina
- MyBootMgr can set OpenCore up for installing and running Catalina
- Big Sur:
- Use OpenCore (via the OCLP or other methods)
- Current versions of the OCLP are targeted at Ventura/Sonoma
- Go back through the release history to find the right one for Big Sur
- MyBootMgr can set OpenCore up for installing and running Big Sur
- Monterey:
- Use OpenCore (via the OCLP or other methods)
- Current versions of the OCLP are targeted at Ventura/Sonoma
- Go back through the release history to find the right one for Monterey
- MyBootMgr can set OpenCore up for installing and running Monterey
- Ventura:
- Use OpenCore (via the OCLP or MyBootMgr)
- MyBootMgr allows adding OCLP configured OpenCore for Ventura to the setup
- That is, it ultimately needs the OCLP for Ventura
- Sonoma:
- Use OpenCore (via the OCLP or MyBootMgr)
- MyBootMgr allows adding OCLP configured OpenCore for Sonoma to the setup
- That is, it ultimately needs the OCLP for Sonoma
I suppose I am biased, but think MyBootMgr is the most flexible option out there
Can Office 2011 be used on Mojave?
No idea on this one as I boot into Windows when I want to use MS Office.
Note however that you do not need to zap your current setup and that it can live along with a new version of Mac OS as well as with Windows and Linux as you please.
