would like to keep it around 500 more or less- I have been told 8 11 and 12 models are the best fit for me. tho, there is some distinguishment, "pro" etc that I am not current on. thus my post ..thank you all

An iPhone 12 or 13 mini would have similar screen size as the 6s Plus. Apple certified refurbished iPhones get new battery, new outer shell, same as new 1 year warranty, etc. Apple refurb 12 minis start at $389 and 13 minis start at $449 but availability varies. They only appear to currently have 128GB and 256GB 12 minis available.

In terms of glass area, you need at least a 6.1-inch model to match the display area of the 5.5-inch Plus. This is due to the different aspect ratio. At this point, I'd suggest at least an iPhone 11.
